The goal of this activity is to share the lives of several saints so that the youth might relate to what these people have done and maybe look to these individuals as role models.

  • 1st - 5th Grades - Complete 4 requirements and 2 of the activities.

  • 6th - 12th Grades - Complete 5 requirements and 3 of the activities.

  • Adults:

    1) Assist the youth with this Footsteps of American Saints activity

    2) Share your thoughts with the youth about this Saint.

    3) Review the youth requirements after they have completed the activity.

Requirements

  • What distinguishes St. Elizabeth Ann Seton from all other saints before her?

  • When did she become a saint?

  • When is the feast day of this saint?

  • What are some of the difficulties that St. Elizabeth Ann Seton had to endure during her lifetime?

  • What are some of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton's accomplishments?

  • St. Elizabeth Ann Seton had two great devotions, what were they? Why were they important to her?

Activities

  • Discuss with your family or counselor some of the values that you admire most about St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. What is she known for? How can you be more like her?

  • Draw a picture showing some of her accomplishments. Share this picture with your family.

  • St. Elizabeth Ann Seton had an ardent love for the Blessed Sacrament. Attend Mass and observe the parishioners receiving the sacrament of the Eucharistic. Discuss with your parents or counselor your experience seeing and/or receiving the Eucharist. What does it mean to you?

  • Elizabeth Seton told her sisters, "The first end I propose in our daily work is to do the will of God; secondly, to do it in the manner He wills it; and thirdly, to do it because it is His will." Perform a service to your Church that you feel best represents what is meant by this quote.

Completion & Application

After completing the requirements, the participants will complete the NCCS Patch Order Form (here) and mail it along with the applicable fee to the NCCS. The answers to the questions should be reviewed by an adult for correctness and do not need to be forwarded when ordering the patch.
